ROMANBY PARISH COUNCIL IS HIRING!!
Following a detailed staffing review, we are now advertising for a new part-time employment position on Romanby Parish Council.
The new part-time position is Public Open Spaces Supervisor (POSS), and we are looking to employ someone from October/November 2026 for 8 hours per week. Details below:
Job Role: Romanby Public Open Spaces Supervisor
- Location: Romanby, Northallerton, North Yorkshire
- Job Type: Part-Time (8 hours per week, flexible schedule)
- Salary: £12.71 per hour (UK National Living Wage for ages 21+)
- Reports To: Romanby Parish Council (RPC)
- Closing Date: 5pm Monday 7th September 2026
Main Responsibilities
- Maintenance and Upkeep:
- Litter-picking/collection.
- Inspecting facilities and play equipment for damage or wear and tear on a monthly basis and reporting any issues promptly.
- Facility Management:
- Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of public facilities, including playgrounds, sports fields, picnic areas.
- Monitoring the usage of facilities and identifying potential hazards or safety concerns.
- Implementing directed measures to prevent vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
- Public Engagement:
- Interacting with park and open space users to address concerns, provide information, and promote responsible use of the spaces.
- Enforcing park rules and regulations and addressing any conflicts or disputes.
- Gathering feedback from park users to improve the overall experience.
Accountability
The POSS will be accountable day-to-day to the Council, through the Parish Clerk for the following:
- Adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Effective communication with the Council, contractors, and the public.
- Helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all park users.
- Promoting positive public relations and community engagement.
Requirements & Skills
- ESSENTIAL
- Safety Knowledge: Understanding of health and safety rules for public spaces (further training will be provided).
- Work Ethic: Ability to work alone efficiently and manage your own weekly routine.
- Communication: Friendly and professional attitude when talking/dealing with local residents.
- DESIRABLE
- Experience: Background in gardening, landscaping, or outdoor grounds maintenance.
- Travel: A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly preferred.
