War Memorial Garden Rose Beds - The Back Story

Back in 2014, we secured two sources of external funding to help us realise our ambition to improve the Memorial Garden.  The first, much publicised £10,000 was from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to help us refurbish the clock tower, and carry out hard landscaping; the second, was a generous £500 donation from the North of England Horticultural Society (NEHS), as part of their "Commemoration" project, concerned with the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.

When we then began planning some of the details for the Garden, we came up with the fabulous idea of a special rose bed area to replace the very dilapidated roses that had existed before.

Why a special rose bed? Well.......

We selected 24 red roses, one for each of the men commemorated on our Memorial from the First & Second World War (22), along with a yellow / cerise Peace rose and a red Remembrance rose (for all the fallen - known and unknown), to grace our flower beds for years to come.

As always, we hope you like what we have done - your comments are always welcome.
